If you can learn what helps stimulate other people, you can
really make your daily life such that you automatically do many voluntary good
acts of charity with just small simple things. I find my stimulation in the computer
but I realize that not every solution to my life or for the Ummah is going to
happen with the computer though certainly there is much good to do therein.
Nevertheless, there is the human element and it will always be there. If you
want to be in touch with reality and other people find out how you can
positively stimulate them as joy and happiness could result.
Really it can be anytime or anyplace. Maybe the concern you
showed for the clerk at the store so you listened to what was troubling them
enabled the to solve a long-standing problem in their life.
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)
who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
said, “Every joint of a person must perform a charity each day that the sun
rises: to judge justly between two people is a charity. To help a man with his
mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity.
And the good word is a charity. And every step that you take towards the prayer
is a charity, and removing a harmful object from the road is a charity.”
Al-Bukhari and Musi.
The beautiful thing about charity is that it can multiply and
blossom. Allah SWT says: And whatever you give for interest to increase
within the wealth of people will not increase with Allah . But what you give in
zakah, desiring the countenance of Allah - those are the multipliers. (30:39).
The smile on your face could have radiated to a young student
who saw it and later when getting tired and groggy during an exam recalled it
enabling them to muster enough energy to score high marks on the exam. The high
marks then delighted the parents who decided to invest more in their education
and enabled them to become a top civil engineer. The strategic planning that blossoming
engineer made for the city added fire escape ladders to all buildings in a
congested block where your mother happened to live. The devastating fire broke
out and your mother barely escaped with her life thanks to those ladders.
Indeed, you never really know. That smile you have tomorrow could be what saves
your mother's life. And after all paradise is at her feet.
It was
narrated from Mu'awiyah bin Jahimah As-Sulami, that Jahimah came to the Prophet
(ﷺ) and said: "O
Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight (in Jihad) and I have come to
ask your advice." He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said:
"Yes." He said: "Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her
feet." (Sunan an-Nasa'i 3104). Graded Sahih by Darussalam.
What
can we conclude?
Never
underestimate small acts of charity. Even great sins might be forgiven
and erased due to them.
Narrated
Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "A prostitute was forgiven by
Allah, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog
was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it with her
head-cover she drew out some water for it. So, Allah forgave her because of
that." Sahih al-Bukhari 3321
